WebChat Flood Help Team

What is the purpose of #admin.floodhelp?
#admin.floodhelp is an official network channel to help user that experience problems with flood and clone issue.

What is Flooding?
Flooding is when you type many lines within a short time frame, usually on purpose. Those people who flood channels/private messages/services cause many problems to the network. Due to this, we have taken actions to ban any user caught flooding on the WebChat IRC Network, which can result in being akilled from the network.

What is Cloning?
Cloning can be described as the connection of multiple clients from a single IP Address or Host. Cloning can cause many problems to networks and are generally used to flood channels or users and cause various malicious acts on the network. It is for this reason that we have decided it necessary to limit the number of connections allowed from a certain user.

How many connections are allowed on WebChat?
You are allowed no more than 2 connections from a given IP/Host. If you go beyond this, you are at risk of being caught and removed from the WebChat IRC network due to cloning.

How do I recognise clones?
Clones are generally when multiple clients connect from a single IP Address or Host. If you believe you have a clone report you should advise the staff in #admin.floodhelp.

What if I'm at a cyber cafe am I cloning too?
No, you are not purposely cloning. You should request your IP to be triggered by an IRCop to make sure it is safe. IRCop's check each IP and they will verify each user connected to the IP to limit the amount of innocent users being akilled or banned. If you use a cyber cafe and you're unsure about whether you will be classed as cloning we advise you to join #admin.floodhelp for help and clarification.

How do i protect myself if someone is flooding me in "Private message" (PM)?
Either use usermode +mM or ignore. The syntax is /umode +M this will block private messages from unregistered nicks only, but if you use /umode +m it will block all user sending private messages to you. You also can use the ignore and silence facilities, the syntax is /ignore nick/host or use /silence nick/host.

How do i prevent my channel from being flooded by a flooder or cloner?
Most clones don't normally use registered nicks. You can use /mode #channel +R to prevent unregistred nick from joining your channel. You can also use other channel modes to ease flooding such as +i (invite only), +m (moderated), +l (limited). For further information about user modes you can type /hs cmode. Protection scripts are also available on the internet to help manage a channel flood.

What is a services abuse?
Services abuse, is when you abuse the privilege of using our services. (i.e. Chanserv, Nickserv, and Memoserv) You can abuse services in a variety of ways. Flood registering nicknames, registering impersonation channels constantly, taking over nicknames/channels, memoserv flooding, flooding services intentionally and many other malicious actions.
