Advertising Questions and

What is the WebChat official advertising policy?

What is the WebChat official
advertising policy?
Good Question. The truth is I haven't been able to get
a complete answer to this question yet.
The policy is to warn and then ban users who continue
to advertise from the network. If that doesn't stop
the problem we will warn and/or close the channel that
is being advertised.
What is considered advertising?
Advertising is basically any message sent to a channel
or user asking them to check out a web site or server
or to join another channel on the network. Some channels
may allow advertising on their channel in channel messages.
This is NOT encouraged, however we tend to "look
the other way" in these cases, rather than interfere
in channel policy.
Sending private messages or notices to individual users
or channels is another story. This inconveniences the
users and is strictly forbidden.
Why can't I advertise?
This is the most common question advertisers ask when
we warn or /kill them for advertising (spamming).
It's pretty simple actually. We have thousands of users
on the network. If everyone who wanted to promote their
new channel (room) or website started mass advertising
to the other users, we would spend all our time closing
their stupid private message windows, or trying to read
past their unwanted advertising.
How can I get people to my
channel/web site/etc.?
This is a valid question and deserves consideration.
I will try to offer non-intrusive advertising suggestions
here in the future, however I don't really have time
to get into it now. The best advice I can offer is to
make friends and ask them to join you in building your
channel or web site. This takes time, but nobody said
it would be easy. Try to use the "golden rule"
when considering ways to promote your channel/site ...
if you would not want someone else advertising to you
in the way you are advertising to them chances are they
don't want it either.
